HITC Sport understands Cardiff City have rejected a £4million bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers for striker Joe Mason.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have seen their latest bid for Cardiff City striker Joe Mason turned down, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett is desperate to bring in a new striker before the close of the transfer window, and he is a long-term admirer of Mason.

Jackett saw a bid for Mason rejected at the start of the summer, with Wolves offering £1.5million for the 24-year-old – as revealed by HITC Sport.

Mason looked to be on his way out of Cardiff last season after finding himself out of favour at the Cardiff City Stadium, having spent three spells out on loan at Bolton Wanderers during the last 18 months.

However, the Republic of Ireland international has fought his way back into the plans of Russell Slade and has started all five of the Bluebirds' Championship games so far this season.

Cardiff are reluctant to lose Mason, with the striker scoring three goals so far this season, and are set to resist any further offers for the player before the summer deadline passes.
