The 25-year-old left-back has joined the Premier League new boys until January after penning a one-year contract extension.
The 25-year-old left-back signed a one-year contract extension on deadline day to keep him at Villa Park until the summer of 2017, before joining Premier League newcomers Bournemouth on loan for the first half of the season.
Stuck behind summer signing Jordan Amavi and Kieran Richardson in the pecking order, the former England Under-21 international was facing the prospect of little first-team football over the coming months, but his south coast switch will now give him the chance to earn some top-flight minutes under Eddie Howe’s guidance.
Speaking to Bournemouth’s official website, Bennett said: “I’m really excited about the prospect of playing for AFC Bournemouth and hopefully helping them perform well this season in the Premier League.
“They’ve already made a positive start to the new season and, like everyone else, I’ve been really impressed with the fantastic job Eddie Howe has performed. They have a really good side.”
Signed for £2.75 million, Bennett was a regular starter during his first season at Villa but he has since struggled to get back into the first-team picture after falling out of Paul Lambert’s plans ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.
After spending last season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, the ex-Boro man returned to the Midlands this summer with the aim of impressing new manager Sherwood, but he has so far featured just once in the recent 5-3 Capital One Cup victory over Notts County – coming on to score the home side’s final goal in extra-time.
Time will tell whether that will be his last meaningful contribution in a Villa shirt but, for now, here is how a portion of the claret and blue faithful reacted to the combined news of his new deal and Bournemouth loan.
Joe bennett joining Bournemouth on a 6 month loan deal is good. But if Amavi gets injured it has to be Crespo over Richardson at LB. #avfc— Ryan Blud (@villa946) September 1, 2015
glad Bennett is gonna get some game time and a 1 year extension, there's good a player in there somewhere I feel #avfc— Pricey (@DJ_Pricey) September 1, 2015
Surprised Joe Bennett has gone . Surprised any bugger wanted him #AVFC— James Stokes (@Stokesey84) September 1, 2015
Think Joe B. is loaned out because we couldnt sell Richardson. Sell in january and start the spring with Amavi and a match fit Bennett #avfc— Christer (@Chrsmo) September 1, 2015
Might get mixed opinions, but think Bennett will do well at Bournemouth, technically a good footballer, will suit them #AVFC— Elliott Williams (@ElliottAVFC) September 1, 2015
Glad joe Bennett is off to get more PL experience for all his faults, I honestly think the kid will come good #avfc— Matthew Sabin (@MattBrumSabin9) September 1, 2015
