Report: Newcastle United readying approach for Bundesliga striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga

The Magpies are said to be keen on the player as doubts emerge over Papiss Cisse's future.

Reports in Germany are suggesting that Bundesliga strugglers Hamburg SV are getting set to sell striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga before the close of the Transfer Window tomorrow evening.

The striker, who has 11 caps for the Germany under-21 side, joined Hamburg initially on loan in 2013, making the deal permanent last summer.

The striker has however struggled for first-team football with the club and is now said to be on his way out.

One Premier League team believed to be interested are Newcastle United. Graham Carr is known to be a fan of the 23-year-old powerhouse and it is being reported in this morning’s Hamburger Morgenpost that Newcastle are keen on bringing him in.

The fee would likely be somewhere in the region of €10 million (£7.3 million) with Newcastle said happy to pay that sum.

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren recently claimed he was happy with his striking options. Since then however Papiss Cisse has caused some doubt about his future with comments in the press whilst Aleksandar Mitrovic is proving himself to be slightly unreliable.

With that in mind Lasogga might very well be a late addition to the Newcastle squad.
