Report: Former club AS Roma want Erik Lamela back from Tottenham Hotspur by tonight, Marseille also keen

The Argentine has struggled in English football since his move from the Italian capital.

It is being reported in Italy that AS Roma, riding the crest of a wave after beating Juventus in Serie A last night, are hoping to tie down a move to bring Tottenham Hotspur attacker Erik Lamela back to the club today.

La Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Roma want to bring the Argentine back to the Italian capital after he left two summers ago and are planning to do so before the Italian transfer window shuts tonight.

It comes after Inter Milan snapped up Ivan Perisic instead of the expensive Tottenham flop, leaving him low on options regarding a White Hart Lane exit.

Roma would be hoping to bring in the player on loan.

Lamela was at Roma for two seasons after arriving from River Plate in 2011 and was an impressive talent in Italian football.

However he has struggled to live up to his reputation, and price-tag, at Tottenham and they are keen on shelving his wages.

There is also renewed interest from France. Football Italia are reporting that Olympique Marseille are in fact on the verge of signing the player.

Regardless of where he ends up it is likely to be outside of the UK, meaning a deal will need to be tied up before 11pm tonight, when the deadline closes in mainland Europe.
