The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to The Emirates.
With just a day and a half left of the British Transfer Window there is little doubt that Arsenal fans are once again hoping for some late movement in the market before it slams shut tomorrow at 6pm.
One area where they are once again hoping, rather than expecting, some sort of business is in the striker department.
The club currently have an injured Danny Welbeck, the limited Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott – who it seems is now destined to a career on the wing.
One man that has been perpetually linked with the club is Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
It is the move many an Arsenal fan dreams of and is constantly being rumoured in the press. But why should Arsenal definitely not sign a player that, according to The Telegraph, is worth around £50 million.
The simple fact is, Benzema is not the right player for Arsenal.
First of all there is the sense of entitlement that comes whenever somebody arrives in the Premier League from Real Madrid. Angel Di Maria? Mesut Ozil? Let’s be honest, they have not really shone.
Then there is Benzema’s style. He is world-class, a potent finisher but not what Arsenal need.
Arsenal need a bustling, hard-working, mobile centre-forward type. Someone in the mould of Carlos Tevez or Sergio Aguero. Think Alexis Sanchez, but an out-and-out striker. Benzema is not that man.
Arsene Wenger gets plenty of stick for his lack of movement in the transfer market but if he is refusing to meet £50 million for Benzema than he is doing the right thing, as controversial a statement as that might be for Arsenal fans to take.
Here’s hoping that Arsenal eventually find their man, but it will not be before Tuesday’s deadline and, it won’t be Benzema.
