Manchester United transfers: 24 hours to sign Arturo Vidal

Will Manchester United make a late move they really should have aimed to complete a month ago?

The last summer transfer window ended in not so glorious failure for Manchester United as a bungled attempt to sign Ander Herrera saw them miss out on the Spaniard.

The club simply left it too late, and as they club consider their deadline day business this time around, history could repeat itself with another target.

Subject of reported United admiration all summer is Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal, who Juventus have stood firm over, but the Red Devils are still reported not to have made a firm offer. There is no time like now, with the transfer deadline 24 hours away.

The Guardian report that it remains a possibility, writing in their report confirming Shinji Kagawa's switch to Borussia Dortmund: "Van Gaal has not ruled out a late move for Juventus’s Arturo Vidal or any further strengthening before 11pm on Monday despite high-ranking sources at United claiming there is a “very low probability” of more signings."

Juventus would demand in the region of £50 million, but their main incentive to accept such a bid has dwindled over the past month, for there would be very limited opportunity to go and spend it themselves.

Meanwhile the possibility of helping sweeten a deal by offering a striker the Italians want, in Javier Hernandez appears to no longer be an option, appearing set for a loan deal to Real Madrid.

Daley Blind's transfer to United is all but done, however if the Red Devils think he will solve their midfielder issues they are mistaken. A top box-to-box player like Vidal is required to invigorate the side, and the Juventus side is the best around.

Is he available? Manchester United and Louis van Gaal have only 24 hours to truly find out.
