HITC Sport understands that Steve McClaren wants more striker power but chances are diminishing
Newcastle United are unlikely to push through a deal for Hamburg's Pierre-Michel Lasogga, HITC Sport understands.
Newcastle were approached last week about the prospect of signing Lasogga, a player they know well after they tried to sign him last summer and talks over a deal commenced.
HITC Sport understands that Lasogga would be keen on making the move to St James' Park, but the deal has faltered over the weekend.
Despite already signing Aleksandar Mitrovic, Newcastle head coach Steve McClaren was keen on extra reinforcements and they also looked into signing Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers but baulked at their asking price.
Now although Lasogga could happen, Newcastle sources have confirmed to HITC Sport that it is highly unlikely to happen and their business in this window is now done.
It had also been reported in Germany that a move for the player was seemingly in the works but it looks like this deal is no more.
