Fulham captain Ross McCormack has emerged as a shock target for Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday before Tuesday's transfer deadline, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
The Fulham striker signed a new contract two weeks ago but the Owls are trying to tempt him away.
Sheffield Wednesday's Thai owners are keen to build a squad capable of winning promotion to the Premier League and see McCormack as the big-name signing who could score the goals to boost their promotion bid.
The offer is being rejected by Fulham, who consider their captain a huge part of their plans for the future.
McCormack, 29, joined Fulham from Leeds last year and has scored three goals this season.
Meanwhile, Fulham are about to complete the signing of £2 million defender Richard Stearman from Wolves.
Stearman was not in the squad for Saturday's win over Charlton after being given permission to discuss personal terms with Fulham officials.
