The 10-men Magpies lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal yesterday.
Newcastle United were defeated by Arsenal 1-0 yesterday, with an unfortunate deflection from Fabricio Coloccini proving the difference between the two sides.
Although, of course, the fact Newcastle were also down to ten men did not help matters. They saw their numbers reduced when summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic was sent off in the first half for a foul on Francis Coquelin. For some it was fair, for others harsh, but regardless The Toon now had an uphill battle against The Gunners.
They battled well but in the end Arsenal proved to have just about enough to claim victory and, in fairness to the away side, 1-0 was not a flattering scoreline considering their dominance.
However the Newcastle players were right to be happy with the resilience in their performance, even if it did not lead them to a point or three.
It was hard to compete outnumbered but the team showed a great fighting spirit today! #NUFC— Moussa Sissoko (@MoussaSissoko) August 29, 2015

Newcastle’s next game is against West Ham in two weeks’ time, with the club still chasing their first win of the season.
These three will be pivotal if Newcastle are to claim that victory at Upton Park.
