Gary Lineker has high praise for Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez

The England international is back in form after a season out of the game.

Southampton picked up their first win of the Premier League season this afternoon, defeating newly-promoted Norwich City 3-0 at St Mary’s.

The Canaries, who had a man sent off in Steven Whittaker, were rarely at the races against The Saints, who were reeling from their recent exit from the Europa League.

Despite the overall performance of the team there is no doubt that Jay Rodriguez deserves some credit.

The England international came on for Steven Davis at half-time and put in an excellent second-half performance.

It looks like, hopefully, the player has put behind him his horrid recent knee injury. One man who is pleased about that is former Tottenham striker and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker.

He sent out this Tweet earlier today:

Rodriguez missed all of last season with a nasty knee ligament problem, just when it looked like the former Burnley man was on the cusp of a place in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.

Today was perhaps his best performance since returning to injury and if he continues to play like this, England caps might be back on the agenda.
