Arsenal fans happy for Thomas Vermaelen after Barcelona goal

The Gunners faithful have come out in support of their former defender after he scored the decisive strike in his side’s 1-0 win over Malaga.

Arsenal fans have come out in support of their former defender Thomas Vermaelen on Twitter after the Belgian defender scored his first goal for Barcelona yesterday.

The ex-Gunner joined the Catalan giants last summer but had an injury plagued first campaign at Camp Nou, playing only once in La Liga in 2014-15.

Despite the initial setback, the centre-half has been selected to start by head coach Luis Enrique in the Blaugrana’s first two league games so far this term.

Although Vermaelen put in an accomplished defensive performance in the 1-0 win over Malaga yesterday, he also popped up with the decisive strike to ensure that the hosts won and maintained their 100 per cent record this season so far.

Given the supreme attacking talent in the Barcelona side, including Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, it is ironic that Vermaelen scored the winning goal.

Arsenal fans were quick to congratulate the versatile defender upon his strike and it appears that the former Gunner is still well regarded by the Emirates Stadium faithful.
