Leeds United fans had to wait a long time for their first victory of the new season, but when it came it was a moment to savour.

With just two minutes of normal-time remaining in their match against Derby County on Saturday, Leeds looked like dropping two more points and making it five draws on the bounce, but Chris Wood changed things with a sublime effort to send the Whites’ fans into joyous celebration.

Fellow summer recruit Tom Adeyemi had scored Leeds’ opening goal only to see Chris Martin equalise for Derby, but there was no reply to Wood’s effort as he continued his impressive start to life at Elland Road.

The win means Leeds are still undefeated in the league and now have the boost they need to start putting a winning run together in a division that is always difficult to successfully navigate.

Whatever happens between now and then, Leeds fans are set for an exciting time after seeing the squad significantly strengthened.
