Former Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton said on the Drivetime show on talkSPORT on Friday evening that Arsenal will not win the Premier League title this season.
The 32-year-old former Newcastle star, who recently joined Championship side Burnley on a free transfer, believes that the Gunners will finish fourth in the league table this campaign.
“When I say struggle, I mean finish fourth,” said former Newcastle and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Barton on the Drivetime show on talkSPORT on Friday evening.
“They won’t win the title, if they don’t add to it (the squad).
Arsenal always start as one of the favourites to win the Premier League title, but they end up finishing third or fourth.
This season could follow that pattern, although with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the team, the Gunners do have a chance.
Arsene Wenger’s side have not made a great start to the campaign and will be determined to return to winning ways against Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park this afternoon.
Arsenal will head into today’s match on the back of a goalless draw with Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in North London.
