The Arsenal boss has stated that the Tyneside club’s new signing will be a threat to the visitors today.
The North London side have started the new season in slow fashion, with the Emirates Stadium outfit failing to score in two of their first three games and only picking up four points from a possible nine.
With Wenger’s charges having ambitions of winning the Premier League title this season, the travelling support will hope for three points on Tyneside.
The French boss has been full of praise for countryman Thauvin ahead of the early clash at St James’ Park today.
“He’s a left-footed player who likes to run at people and has good physical qualities, good pace - he’s a very spectacular player,” Wenger told the Arsenal official website.
“He’s a promising young player from France and we’ve seen in recent years that Newcastle is maybe the second-best French club, number-wise. They have bought many French players.
“He’s one of the promising talents.”
Thauvin has immediately made an impact in English football, scoring within three minutes of his debut against Northampton in the Capital One Cup in midweek and laying on three assists in a 4-1 victory.
The Toon fanbase will be excited to see their new star in action today in his Premier League debut should Steve McClaren drop the former Marseille man into the deep end against title-chasing Arsenal.
