Report: No bids for out-of-favour Liverpool defender Jose Enrique

Jose Enrique could be set to stay at Liverpool for the foreseeable future.

According to the Daily Star, Liverpool fear they will be unable to offload Jose Enrique before the transfer window closes as they are yet to receive any offers for the Spaniard’s services.

The 29-year-old finds himself out-of-favour at Anfield, having been banished from the Reds first-team squad, and Brendan Rodgers is struggling to attract suitors ahead of the end of the summer.

Enrique made just four appearances for Liverpool last term, in a season that ultimately confirmed his fate.

A left-sided defender who became renowned for his attacking prowess at Newcastle United, he should have been perfectly suited to the wing-back role in Rodgers’ favoured 5-3-2 system.

He completed just 65% of his total attempted passes, while averaging a mere four defensive actions per game, as he struggled to make an impact throughout a period of transition – following the loss of Luis Suarez - for all involved.

Now, as we approach transfer deadline day, the club are pessimistic regarding their chances of selling the Spaniard, with the Liverpool Echo suggesting that he is happy to see out the final year of his contract despite the prospect of sitting on the sidelines for the entire campaign.
