The Gunners have had a quiet transfer window thus far, with goalkeeper Petr Cech their only significant signing of the summer.
That will have come as a disappointment to fans who were anticipating a title challenge this season after their impressive form in the second half of last season and would have liked to see more faces arriving at the Emirates.
However, it appears that manager Arsene Wenger has a shortlist of players he could move for before the transfer window closes in less than a week’s time, and Lorient defender Raphael Guerreiro is among those on it, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The defender has just started his third season at the French side, and has already made 71 appearances for them despite only being 21-years-old, meaning he fits perfectly into Wenger’s model of buying young talent to develop.
It seems, though, any move for him will be entirely dependent on the future of current first choice left-back Nacho Monreal.
The defender had looked surplus to requirements at the Emirates after failing to make the grade, but enjoyed a fine run of form in the side last season and has kept his place for this campaign, impressing with his performances.
He has, however, been linked with a return to Spain and Athletic Bilbao, by the likes of the Express, and should he decide a return to his homeland is attractive enough to lure him from London, then the Gunners may move for Guerreiro as his replacement.
