HITC Sport understands that interest is mounting in the youngster, but Preston remain keen on tying him to fresh terms.

Preston North End are battling to keep midfield prospect Josh Brownhill before next week's transfer deadline, HITC Sport understands from sources close to a potential deal.

The stylish playmaker played a starring role in Preston's shock League Cup success over Watford on Tuesday and now a host of Premier League and Championship clubs are ready to bid for the teenager.

The one-time Manchester United trainee has long been on the radar of a number of clubs, but it now looks like Preston are ready to cash in.

The likes of Swansea City, Southampton and Bournemouth are considering offers, while Championship sides Derby County, Middlesbrough, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keeping close tabs on his situation.

Brownhill has one year left on his current deal, and Preston are understood to be keen on handing him a new long-term contract in an effort to fend off unwanted interest and keep the talented 19-year-old on their books.
