The Barcelona forward was the unanimous winner of the prestigious accolade, beating Luis Suarez and the Real Madrid man to top spot.
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has won the Uefa Best Player in Europe award, with the picture above showing the Argentine attacker accepting the accolade from Michel Platini.
The Camp Nou talisman has been in sparkling form in 2015 and his individual displays of brilliance were a driving force to the Catalan giants powering to a momentous treble last season.
Messi is the frontrunner to win the 2015 Ballon d’Or and staked his claim as early favourite with an overriding amount of support from a panel of journalists, who decided the Uefa award’s fate.
As reported on the Barcelona website, the 28-year-old received 49 votes, with Suarez getting three votes and Ronaldo only two.
In comparison to the 2014 Ballon d’Or award, where Ronaldo was gleaming as he accepted the accolade in January and Messi was quiet in the background, the roles were reversed here with the Real Madrid star cutting a forlorn figure.
Messi and Ronaldo have been embroiled in a personal battle to be crowned the best on the planet for a number of seasons, with most current football fans claiming the pair to be two of the best to have every played the sport.
