Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has explained on Skysports.com why Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a new striker.
Merson believes that bringing in a new striker will help Harry Kane the same way the arrival of Arouna Kone has lifted Romelu Lukaku at Everton.
The former Arsenal star has also predicted Saturday night’s Premier League clash between Tottenham and Everton at White Hart Lane to end in a 2-2 draw.
“In terms of Spurs in the transfer window, a second striker for Harry Kane will do what Arouna Kone has done for Romelu Lukaku,” former Arsenal attacker Merson wrote on Skysports.com.
“I'm not the biggest fan of Kone, but he's gone up front and has helped Lukaku, and they look a better team since. With Kane, he needs the pressure taken off him. It can only be a good thing for Spurs.”
Interestingly, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp has predicted the exact same scoreline in Saturday’s match in North London.
“I'm predicting a 2-2 draw – but would like to see so much more from Tottenham,” the Englishman wrote on Skysports.com.
Tottenham have made a disappointing start to the 2015-16 Premier League campaign and have yet to win a league match.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side went down 1-0 to Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season.
Spurs then played out a 2-2 draw with Stoke City at White Hart Lane, before drawing 1-1 with Leicester City away from home at the King Power Stadium last weekend.
