Nolberto Solano warns Newcastle against selling Papiss Cisse

St James Park

Papiss Cisse has been linked with a move away from Newcastle United.

Nolberto Solano has told The Chronicle that Newcastle United should not sell Papiss Cisse.

According to a report in The Chronicle earlier this month, Turkish giants Galatasaray are interested in signing the 30-year-old striker before the end of the summer transfer window next month.

Former Newcastle midfielder Solano has explained to The Chronicle why the Magpies should not make a quick decision on the future of Senegal international Cisse.

“Newcastle do have Aleksandar Mitrovic and he looks strong and has good character,” the 40-year-old told The Chronicle.

“He has shown if you put the ball in the box he has power and strength. He can head the ball no problem, but you need to get those service levels.

“If Cisse was sold you do have Ayoze Perez too, who I like a lot, but can he play as a No 9? I’m not sure. If Cisse was sold and there were injuries I do worry a bit.”

Cisse is one of the best players in the current Newcastle squad, and losing him would be a blow for the Magpies.

The Senegalese scored 11 goals and created six chances in 22 Premier League appearances in the 2014-15 campaign.

For Newcastle to break into the top 10 of the Premier League next season, Cisse needs to be part of the team.

However, if the Magpies can find a suitable replacement for the former Freiburg striker, then they can afford to sell him.
