Newcastle completed the signing of Florian Thauvin earlier this summer.
Speaking to the Chronicle, Massaido Haidara has claimed that Florian Thauvin will become a great player for Newcastle following his move from Marseille.
Haidara said: “Florian is a big-name in France. He is young but he is a big talent and will be a very good player for us. It means we have more options for the team going forward. He will help us to win a lot of games this season.”
Haidara believes Thauvin will have a massive impact with the Magpies, as he brings the added benefit of increasing the number of attacking players Steve McClaren can call upon.
Naturally a right winger, but also adept on both the left and in a number 10 role, Thauvin made his debut in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United last weekend.
He came close to netting the only goal of the game, before scoring his debut strike just days later, as he started Newcastle’s 4-1 win over Northampton Town.
The 22-year-old was exceptional in that tie, as he scored and registered two assists for the Magpies, and it would be no surprise to see him start this weekend for Steve McClaren’s side.
He is a large improvement on Gabriel Obertan, and an attacking trio of Thauvin, Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum is one of real talent, power, pace and it possess a great goal threat.
That trio appears to be the best option for McClaren to call upon, whilst he also would have the likes of Obertan and Siem de Jong to call upon as back-up options.
The Newcastle squad has taken a while to come together, but McClaren looks to have built a team with real talent and potential. Now it is just up to the coach to get all his players working together in his best first XI.
