Luton Town are pushing hard to sign Derby County youngster Shaq McDonald, HITC Sport has learned.
HITC Sport understands from sources close to the situation that the Hatters would like to sign McDonald on a permanent basis.
Derby prefer a loan deal, but may find it hard to keep the player who is keen to play first team football and is yet to feature for the club this season.
McDonald has had a terrific start to the campaign for Derby's under-21 side, scoring five goals in two games.
His contract with the Rams expires next summer, and he turned 20 in July.
He was signed a year ago by Steve McClaren after impressing on trial. He had previously been at Peterborough where he scored a phenomenal 25 goals in 10 games for the under-18 side.
Luton Town finished eighth in League Two last season but have had a poor start to this campaign, sitting in 22nd place with two points and no wins from their opening four games.
