Gary Hooper deal falls through but Sheffield Wednesday may take Kyle Lafferty from Norwich

HITC Sport understands that the Owls are still looking at a second raid on the Carrow Road ranks after landing Michael Turner on loan.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the proposed deal that while Gary Hooper’s mooted move to Sheffield Wednesday now appears unlikely, the Owls may look at taking Kyle Lafferty from Norwich City.

Michael Turner completed a season-long loan switch from Carrow Road to Hillsborough on Thursday, with the experienced defender part of trio of top targets for Wednesday.

Former Celtic striker Hooper has been heavily linked with a switch over the last few weeks – by the likes of the Daily Mirror – with the Owls said to be leading the chase.

That move has now fallen through, although Wednesday would still welcome the opportunity to bring the 27-year-old onto their books.

Instead, Carlos Carvalhal is exploring the option of taking an alternative forward off Norwich’s hands.

Northern Ireland international Lafferty finds himself out of favour in Norfolk and spent the latter stages of last season on loan at Turkish side Caykur Rizespor.

He may welcome the opportunity to get regular game time in the Championship as he looks ahead to a possible European Championship appearance with his country next summer.
