Shrewsbury Town are bracing themselves for offers for in-demand midfielder Ryan Woods before the close of the transfer window, with HITC Sport of the understanding that a number of Championship clubs are chasing his services.
Woods, who has been dubbed the 'ginger Pirlo' by Shrewsbury fans, is regarded as one of the best young talents in Football League after catching the eye over the last two seasons.
West Ham United saw two bids for Woods turned down by Shrewsbury during the last January window after being alerted to the midfielder's potential - as covered by the Shropshire Star.
The 21-year-old came to the attention of a number of clubs after a man-of-the-match performance in a League Cup clash with Chelsea and he was instrumental in helping Shrewsbury win promotion back to League One last season.
Woods was rewarded for his stellar performances by being voted into the PFA League Two Team of the Year, as well as being nominated for the League Two Player of the Year prize.
Despite being only 21, the midfield schemer has made over 100 appearances in his career and he has carried his fine form into this season, producing a number of standout performances in the third tier.
Shrewsbury are reluctant to lose Woods this summer, but Brentford, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston are all ready to test their resolve to hang onto the talented midfielder.
