West Ham United media round-up: New striker linked with signing

A selection of the latest news concerning West Ham United.

Alessandro Matri linked

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that West Ham are targeting Alessandro Matri of AC Milan after seeing a move for Simone Zaza collapse. The 31-year-old striker is far down the pecking order at the San Siro due to the signing of Mario Balotelli, and it is believed that the Serie A side will be willing to sanction his departure before the close of the transfer window.

The report claims West Ham made contact with Milan concerning a possible transfer yesterday evening.

Barton back on the radar

With Kevin Nolan leaving West Ham, the East London club are reportedly tracking Joey Barton as his replacement, according to the Mail. A deal for Barton was cancelled earlier this month due to fan backlash, but he is still on the market and the Hammers believe a deal can be struck to sign him before the close of the transfer window.

Bilic on Song

Slaven Bilic has spoken to the official West Ham website to discuss the potential signing of Alex Song, who has been linked with moving to the Hammers for much of the summer. He spent the campaign on loan last term, and impressed, but Bilic has played down the chances of the midfielder moving back to the club before the close of the transfer window.

He said: “"We have a game in a couple of days and I'm not going to lie to you, and I don't like the situation that I'm thinking more about what's going to happen than your players that are playing. It is the end of the window and we need the players, and I am spending a lot of time thinking about the players who might become my players. I have to do it, but as I've said before I won't discuss it in public until they eventually become West Ham players.”
