"Similar to Pirlo" - Rangers fans react to Gedion Zelalem's impressive debut

Gedion Zelalem

Gedion Zelalem made his Rangers debut on Wednesday.

Rangers coasted to a 5-0 victory over Airdrieonians in the Scottish League Cup on Wednesday night, advancing to the third round of the competition.

Goals from Nicky Clark, Andy Halliday, Martyn Waghorn, Dean Shiels and James Tavernier handed Rangers yet another thumping, taking their tally to 25 goals in just seven games this season.

Each of those seven games have ended in a victory for Mark Warburton's men, as they continue their stunning 100% record to start the campaign.

Warburton's starting line-up against Airdrieonians featured one key name - new signing Gedion Zelalem, who arrived on loan from Arsenal earlier this week.

The United States Under-20 midfielder, 18, was loaned out by the Gunners in a bid to give him more first-team football, and he immediately made his debut on Wednesday.

Zelalem ended the game with two assists to his name, and clearly impressed Rangers supporters, who took to Twitter to discuss his display after the game.

Fans compared Zelalem to world stars Andrea Pirlo and Xavi, with the resounding message that they should make the most of his time at Ibrox, as he won't be there for long due to his huge potential.

Here are some of the reactions from Rangers fans on Twitter after Zelalem's performance against Airdrieonians on Wednesday...
