Report: West Ham release Kevin Nolan, keen on Joey Barton as replacement

West Ham are looking to revive a deal to sign Joey Barton, as release Kevin Nolan.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham are keen on signing Joey Barton as the replacement for Kevin Nolan, who has now been released by West Ham.

Nolan, 33, has made five appearances this season, but it was clear he was not a favoured member of Slaven Bilic’s first-team, and it appears as if his age is finally starting to catch up with him on the field of play.

He is struggling to keep up with opponents, and for a midfielder, all his required talents are waning.

His exit has been confirmed by the official club website, and the Hammers have identified their ideal replacement for the ageing midfielder - Joey Barton.

Barton is just one year younger than Nolan, but he has shown himself to be a more consistent Premier League player, and he is a strong midfield option were it not for all the baggage he carries with him off the pitch.

The Irons were close to completing a deal to sign the free agent earlier this month, but they pulled out at the last moment due to a negative backlash from fans, according to the Mail.

However, with no other options available, and Nolan leaving, Bilic is ready to revive the interest in Barton to complete a deal for the former QPR man before the close of the transfer window.
