The Swiss international looks like being moved on by Watford in the coming week.

Watford have found themselves in an interesting predicament ahead of the announcement of the official Premier League squads next week. They have too many foreign players and some will have to be sold.

The likes of Matej Vydra and Fernando Forestieri are already being touted as potential players to depart – with Almen Abdi now joining that list.

The Yorkshire Post is today reporting that Teeside club and Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough are keen on signing the player.

The report claims that they would want to bring him in, initially on loan, with a view to a permanent Boro switch.

Abdi is something of a fan favourite among Hornets fans and he played 33 times last season, scoring nine goals as the club were promoted from the Championship.

However, he has a history of injuries and the Swiss international has featured in just 35 minutes of their Premier League games this season.

Boro are aiming for promotion from The Championship after the bitter disappointment of defeat in the play-off final last year. A goal-scoring midfielder like Abdi might just be the man to help them in their quest.

Whether Watford decide he is one of their expendable foreign players remains to be seen.
