Report: Tottenham revive interest in Josip Ilicic, reportedly have bid rejected

Tottenham are reportedly looking to sign Josip Ilicic of Fiorentina.

According to TMW, Spurs have revived their interest in Josip Ilicic of Fiorentina, and have already made a formal approach to sign him.

It is stated that the Lilywhites made an offer of roughly £7.5 million, which was swiftly rejected by La Viola who have made it clear they have no desire to sell the attacking midfielder.

Ilicic, 27, is able to play on the wing or as a central attacking player, and he has been linked with Spurs before. Earlier this summer, it was reported by La Nazione that the North London side were preparing a £5.5 million offer for him, but no move came about.

Tottenham’s interest in the Slovenian international looked to be dropped at that point, but the latest report suggests that Spurs are once again keen on sealing a deal for Ilicic before the close of the transfer window.

As he is able to play on the wing or as a number 10, Ilicic does fit into Mauricio Pochettino’s tactical system, and it is likely that his arrival has been planned to replace a duo linked with exits from White Hart Lane.

Erik Lamela is in talks with Internazionale of Italy, according to ESPN, whilst the Mail claim that Mousa Dembele is wanted by Napoli, and Ilicic would be an adequate replacement for both of the current Spurs players.
