Report: Norwich turn attention to Palace's Dwight Gayle after unsuccessful bid for Benik Afobe

Norwich may turn their attention to Crystal Palace's Dwight Gayle after failing in an attempt to sign Benik Afobe.

According to the Daily Mail, Premier League new boys Norwich City may now turn their attention to Crystal Palace’s Dwight Gayle, after having a third bid for Wolves’ Benik Afobe rejected.

Reports suggest that the Molineux club have no desire to sell Afobe as they believe there is not enough time to find a suitable replacement, which could force the Canaries to look elsewhere in an attempt to bolster their attacking options.

As such, out-of-favour Palace striker Dwight Gayle, who has previously been linked with a move to the Championship – according to the Daily Mail – could become Alex Neil’s priority target.

Despite making just a single appearance during the current campaign, Gayle featured on 25 occasions last term, just 11 of which were starts, scoring five goals and creating 16 chances for his Eagles teammates.

Since moving to Selhurst Park from Peterborough United in the summer of 2013, the 24-year-old – in spite of an obvious lack of game time - has finished each season as the club’s top goal scorer in all competitions.
