Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp told talkSPORT that the club’s deal for Baggies forward Saido Berahino may already be in place.
Redknapp suggested that because of agents, the player may already be aware of the contract he’ll get at Tottenham, with the deal being delayed as the club’s haggle over price with the deadline looming this Tuesday.
“The players now their deal because they’ve got agents – Everything is done behind the scenes with the player, he’s probably even got a good idea of where he’s going to live,” he told talkSPORT.
“All it is now is a game of bluff between the two chairmen trying to get the best deal for their club – The aces are held by the clubs that have the players because they are really wanted.”
Spurs don’t have much manoeuvring room
As Redknapp suggests, the power is held by West Brom in this instance because they own the player and know that the transfer deadline is only a matter of days away.
They don’t have to blink and can place all of the pressure on Tottenham because they know about Spurs’ financial strength and they know about the club’s need for an attacking player.
Berahino is a very important player to the Baggies and it’s only natural that they will hold out for top price, which is their right.
However, they can’t run the risk of a deal falling through and ultimately an unhappy player being on their books over the course of a very important season for the club.
