Parlour suggests pressure is now off Reece Oxford

Former Gunner Ray Parlour feels Reece Oxford can now play with a bit of freedom at West Ham United.

Former Arsenal man Ray Parlour told talkSPORT that he feels the pressure has been taken away from West Ham United teenager Reece Oxford.

Oxford was thrown into the spotlight at the start of the season when he featured in the win away at Arsenal.

However, the Hammers have suffered a little inconsistency over their last couple of games against Leicester City and Bournemouth, which Parlour feels benefits the Hammers youngster.

“I like the fact he’s passionate and that they got off to a great start with a fantastic result at the Emirates – The young kid Reece Oxford, the pressure has just been taken off of him a little bit because you can’t rely on him every week,” he told talkSPORT.

A difficult challenge ahead

It’s going to be interesting to see how Oxford plays and reacts over the next few weeks, as he looks to rediscover the sort of impressive performance he produced against Arsenal.

Manager Slaven Bilic needs to be careful because Oxford represents a younger player who will be more vulnerable mentally.

He has to try and protect him as much as possible, but also ensure that his head doesn’t drop as he’s not been able to back up that positive start against the Gunners.

Oxford is a talent and the expectation surrounding him has to be lowered so he’s not suffocated by pressure as the club looks to build and progress over the course of the season.
