Newcastle United round-up: Thauvin makes League Cup team of the round, Gouffran linked to several clubs

A round-up of the latest news from St James's Park, as the Magpies prepare for their match against Arsenal this weekend.

Recent Newcastle United signing Florian Thauvin was selected in the League Cup team of the round, unsurprisingly, after his phenomenal performance against Northhampton Town.

The 22-year-old had a hand in all four Magpies goals in the 4-1 victory, scoring one and setting up each of the others, to follow up on an encouraging debut last weekend against Manchester United.

He may well be set to start against Arsenal on Saturday, and if he can impress there, supporters will know they have a special talent on their hands.

Another Newcastle United winger, Yoan Gouffran, has been linked with a number of clubs at home and abroad, according to the Shields Gazette.

Championship sides Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, Derby and Hull City are all credited with an interest in the Frenchman claims the report, who played in the win over Northampton but has failed to feature in the Premier League under Steve McClaren.

West Ham are a top flight side keeping track of the situation, while former club Bordeaux are among several Ligue 1 clubs also interested.

Elsewhere, three young Magpies are called up to England's Under-19 and Under-20 squads according to the club website. Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong, who are on loan at Crawley Town and Coventry City respectively, called up to the older age group and forward Alex Gilliead is involved for the Under-19s.
