Liverpool media round-up: More reasons behind Balotelli departure, Mignolet on silverware targets

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Thursday morning

More revelations about the antics of Mario Balotelli were revealed by the Liverpool Echo after the forward secured a loan move to AC Milan only a season after his £16 million move to Anfield.

The Echo has reported that Balotelli feigned a hamstring injury after he was told one of his teammates had hold of the iPhone 6, which the Italian had yet to get himself. After being checked over by the medical staff, by the end of the training session the forward had several iPhones.

They also say there was one time when he said he didn't know who Joe Allen was, a player who he had shared a dressing room with ever since his arrival on Merseyside.

The report also says that Balotelli never tried to adapt his game to fit in at the club and quite often showed petulance towards many members of the coaching staff.

Away from the Balotelli story, and Liverpool will be in pot two for tomorrow's Europa League draw given the decline of their UEFA coefficient in recent years.

The Reds could face a relatively big name in the group stages of the competition with Schalke, Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Basel and Marseille all possible opponents for Brendan Rodgers' side before the knock-out stages.

Finally, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has said the side has the ambition to win every competition it enters in after they were drawn at home to Carlisle in the third round of the League Cup.

Liverpool will be going in search of their first trophy in four years after reaching the semi-finals of two competitions last season.

Mignolet told the club's official website: "I’ve said it from the start – the ambition here is to try to win every competition we start in.

“That only comes by winning the individual games step by step, so we’ll have to get through the third round. The first job in hand is Carlisle at home.”
