McAllister praises both Gomez and Clyne for the way they have settled into life at Anfield.
Liverpool first team coach Gary McAllister has been speaking to the club's official website and piled praise on defenders Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Clyne, saying it looks as if they have been part of the set-up for years.
Gomez signed from Charlton Athletic this summer for £3.5 million - as reported by The Guardian - and has been operating in the left-back role, having arrived at Anfield billed as a centre-back who can also play on the right side, while Clyne made a move from Southampton for £12.5 million - according to the BBC.
So far the duo have contributed to a side that has yet to have its defence breached - having kept three clean sheets from their first three games - and McAllister has tipped them both to play at international level 'comfortably'.
He told the official Liverpool website: “I think they’ve done extremely well. For two guys that have just arrived at the club, where the expectation level will be way above what they’ve experienced before, they already look as though they’ve been here a long, long time.
“The fortunate thing is Liverpool have got them right at the start of hopefully what can be long, long careers here.”
It probably does put a little more pressure on the duo after the impressive start the Reds' two newest defenders have had to life at Anfield, but there is much more to be done this season if Liverpool are to achieve their objectives - which have to be finishing in the top four and picking up a trophy along the way.
Defensively Liverpool have been pretty shaky over the past couple of seasons and there have been efforts to try and address this with a series of new players. So far they have looked solid and tight at the back but this needs to be a continuing trend throughout the season, while the side tries to rediscover the goalscoring touch at the other end of the field.
