HITC Sport understands former Reading and Sheffield United defender Marcus Williams is set to join Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters.

Kerala Blasters are poised to sign former Reading and Sheffield United defender Marcus Williams, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Kerala Blasters manager Peter Taylor has been busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to shape his squad ahead of the new season and he has lined up a deal for Williams.

Williams is a free agent after leaving Scunthorpe United earlier this summer and he has decided to take the option to move to India to link up with former England coach Taylor.

The left-back, who started his career at Scunthorpe, has a wealth of experience having made over 300 appearances during spells at Scunthorpe, Reading, Peterborough United and Sheffield United.

Williams will fly out to India next week to seal his move to the Sachin Tendulkar co-owned Kerala Blasters.

The 29-year-old is the latest English-based player to make the move to the Blasters following the arrivals of former Newcastle United defender Peter Ramage, ex-Arsenal forward Sanchez Watt, former Barnsley forward Chris Dagnall and ex-QPR youth player Antonio German earlier this summer.
