The Argentina international had reportedly been talking to West Bromwich Albion before talks broke down at the weekend. However, with the future of teenager John Stones unclear, reports suggest Roberto Martinez has swooped for the out-of-favour Spurs defender.
Understandably, the Toffees have moved quickly as they prepare for the possible departure of Stones, who put in a transfer request on Tuesday afternoon following three failed bids from top flight champions Chelsea. An official club statement suggests they won't sell, however.
But, amid speculation linking Fazio with a move to Goodison Park, HITC Sport have compared his performances from the 2014/15 campaign with those of current Everton first-team regulars Stones and Phil Jagielka.

The statistics are interesting, to say the least.
Indeed, Fazio averaged more successful tackles, interceptions and blocks per appearance than the Everton duo.
Meanwhile, the Tottenham man also won a greater number of duels, holding a significant advantage when it comes to his aerial ability.
In fact, the only area of his overall game that suffers is his passing ability. He is bettered based on his average number of attempts and his overall completion rate.
For just £5m, then, the Argentine could represent an astute signing for the Toffees. His Spurs form did flatter to deceive, of course, which means he is certainly no Stones replacement. But, alongside the young defender (or as a back-up to him) and in a different system, Fazio could well prove a good recruit for Everton.
