Victor Wanyama left out of Southampton squad for Europa League tie

The midfield powerhouse has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent days.

Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has been left out of the squad to face FC Midtjylland in Denmark tomorrow night.

Ronald Koeman gave a ‘stomach infection’ as the reason for his absence but speculation is sure to be rife considering Spurs’ recent reported interest.

The White Hart Lane club are believed to have been preparing a £16 million bid for the Kenyan, according to the Daily Mail, and would likely be willing to go higher.

Meanwhile, the Mirror report that Wanyama is thought to be keen on a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino after their successful spell together at the Saints.

The 24-year old fits the bill in terms of the accomplished defensive midfielder Spurs desire and he also has the added benefit of Premier League experience.

Southampton, meanwhile, will surely do all they can to avoid losing their star after the departure of his midfield partner, Morgan Schneiderlin, earlier this summer to Manchester United.

The next few days look set to be an intense time at White Hart Lane as the North London club's reputation for late business continues to hold.
