Tottenham Hotspur's fans were quick to respond after one of their young players was linked with a temporary move to Norwich City.

According to a recent report from the Mirror, Norwich City are confident of securing a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alex Pritchard if Spurs complete a deal for West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino.

The Canaries are said to want to play the 22-year-old behind a lone forward and feel that if Tottenham bring in the Baggies striker they would be more willing to part with a player who – although dissimilar in position – is still a regular goal-threat if his record on loan at Brentford last season is anything to go by.

Pritchard scored 12 goals while on loan at the Championship side last season and he also set up seven more as Brentford reached the play-offs only to fall short of promotion.

Pritchard is highly-rated at Tottenham and many of the club’s fans feel the time is right for him to get his first-team chance this season, so the news of a potential loan bid from Norwich City generated plenty of discussion.

Below is a selection of comments from Tottenham fans that have been posted on HITC Sport in the last 24 hours:

PK said: ‘If Spurs loan out Pritchard, Pochettino should be sacked. The boy is better than Eriksen already.’

Mark: ‘Agree, sounds insane to send him anywhere given we're currently starting Lamela. But to say he's better than Erikson without ever having kicked a ball in the EPL seems a little exaggerated...clearly has enormous potential, but let's allow him to fulfil it first before crowning him as the next Messi.’

Yossarian said: ‘Better than Eriksen? Ha ha... doubt you'd say that if Eriksen played for Brentford! He's a damn fine player though and I'd like to see him for Spurs.’

Popsy said: ‘I can't understand why we haven't fielded Pritchard yet, or Trippier for that matter, Kane will get more service off both of them than he has had so far.’

Rob Young said: Why are other managers so willing to take a chance on our youngsters while our own manager has no interest whatsoever? I'm getting fed up as a fan and supporter having watch these kids develop from our Academy, stake their place on the Spurs under 18s and under 21s, reading how well they are doing at each level, gaining praises from loan teams and having a very good impressionable preseason with the first team then not even getting a chance when the season starts. I don't know what they're being told but it must be something like 'you're not quite good enough', then watching the players MP regards as good enough start out losing one game and drawing the next two after leading these games. It is evident a few of MP's first team preferences are not 'good enough' and should be benched as a subtle reminder there is competition behind them each very willing to do their best to secure a first team start. Willing to do what it takes to work as a team for each other with a discipline of controlled aggression and a willingness to move the ball forward and to be prepared to track back and help defend. Obviously if these kids are not good enough then they too should be drop to a lower league or back to the academy for further training. This is not a time to panic but a time to use wisely to develop youth. They would not have made it this far if they were not any good.’

Keith Andrew said: ‘Why would we want to do that? We should be integrating him into the first team squad. We have got to find out how good the academy players are and we have already seen he can cut it in Championship’
