Tim Sherwood's message for fans over Aston Villa's season

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has played down expectations for the club this season.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has called for patience as he spoke to the club’s official website.

Sherwood’s side have endured an indifferent start to the season with some promising signs, while there have been one or two areas for concern.

The boss has stressed to the fans that it’s all a work in progress and a squad of players, which is developing and promises to get better in the near future for the football club.

“The fans want to win. And I want to win. It’s a work in progress,” he told avfc.co.uk.

“If we can get through this season unscathed, it's one hell of a young side and an exciting team for the future.”

The main aim for this season

The main aim for this season is to stay up comfortably after the struggles of last year, where the side was nearly relegated down into the Championship.

It’s also an important season for the club in terms of adjusting to losing key players like Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke.

They were big and important players for Villa and it was always going to be difficult for them to adjust through the period where they were no longer at the club.

Sherwood needs to find a settled side and get things moving forward in the right direction, with an emphasis towards consistency.

It’s all about Aston Villa trying to have a progressive season and giving their younger players some positive experience, which they can build on.
