Spurs star Erik Lamela's dad says he wants exit, here's what he said two windows ago

Erik Lamela's dad says the player wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur, but it isn't the first time he has said this.

Erik Lamela continues to be linked away from Tottenham Hotspur, with the winger failing to live up to his billing as the club's most expensive ever signing.

His dad has confirmed he is in negotiations with Serie A side Inter Milan, with Football Italia reporting that Jose Lamela told newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport the player is keen on a move.

He is quoted: "We are in talks with Inter, so we’re discussing it. We would like a return to Italy."

The winger signed in 2013 from Roma, and the Italian side's president James Palotta boasted to a press conference in May that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was still struggling to come to terms with the deal, reported EuropaCalcio.it.

Not the first time

Lamela's father has made comments like this before, suggesting his son harboured a desire to move back to Italy.

He was quoted by The Mirror in January 2014, referencing Italian reports, stating: "Erik is not happy and wants to go back to Italy."

This was quantified with a comment stating Spurs did not want to let him leave, something missing from his latest statement.

At this point Tottenham have given Lamela chances under three different head coaches, and he has not made it work.

Part of the problem could well have been that as his dad disclosed early on, he was looking for an early exit having failed to settle, while a more determined approach could have seen him live up to expectations.
