Former Premier League midfielder Shaun Derry told talkSPORT show Extra Time that he feels Everton defender John Stones should talk to the more experienced players at the club over his future.
Stones has just handed in a transfer request and is expected to leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window and Derry feels he should be talking to his older and more experienced teammates at the club, rather than any agent who may be acting for him.
“I think he should (be talking to more experienced players) – Sometimes you need to talk to other players – They have a lot of experience there in Jagielka, with Baines who has played a lot of games, they are good people to talk to,” he told talkSPORT.
Is Stones doing the right thing?
ESPN has suggested that Stones’ transfer request is in preparation of a £40 million offer from Chelsea to sign him.
It’s a move, which would see his profile and status increase substantially, but there is an argument to suggest that he would be better off staying where he is and developing at Everton.
He could play 40-50 games in an Everton shirt and doesn’t face the same guarantee in Chelsea colours.
However, the appeal of the Champions League is also something that he will be considering and something, which will be difficult for him to ignore.
The writing appears to be on the wall with regards to his future, but whether he’s making the right decision remains to be seen.
