Report: Willem II keen on signing Celtic outcast Derk Boerrigter

The Dutch winger looks set to leave Celtic before the close of the transfer window.

As reported by VI, Eredivisie side Willem II are looking to sign Boerrigter from Celtic, as they want to bring the Dutch winger back to his homeland.

Boerrigter, 28, has struggled to establish himself at Parkhead since his transfer in 2013, with injuries limiting him to just 26 appearances in his time at the club.

He has yet to play a game this season, with his last appearance for the Bhoys coming on this day exactly one year ago, when he featured for 18 minutes of the loss to Maribor in the Champions League qualifying stages.

With his chances not set to improve under Ronny Deila, the Scottish champions are keen to get him off their books, and the report states that Willem II are looking to bring the former Ajax man back to the Eredivisie.

The club are still looking for offensive players to improve their squad, and Boerrigter’s record in the Netherlands is impressive, having played 203 games with a return of 57 goals and 43 assists.

At 28, he is still to reach his peak, and the transfer to Willem II would seem to be in the best interests of all parties involved.
