According to ESPN FC, Southampton have told midfielder Victor Wanyama that he will not be allowed to leave the club in this transfer window amid continued speculation that he is set to move to pastures new.
Reports suggest the 24-year-old has asked to leave the south coast club this summer, with Tottenham and Arsenal both reported to be interested - according to the same source.
However, the Kenyan international has now been told he will not be granted a move to White Hart Lane or the Emirates this summer, with the Saints keen to maintain their stance that no more senior players will leave in the next few days.
Despite speculation regarding his future, Wanyama started on Sunday as Ronald Koeman’s side were held to a goalless draw at Vicarage Road against top-flight new boys Watford.
He has now appeared in each of the Saints’ three opening Premier League fixtures, completing 86% of his attempted passes and 50% of his tackles in the process.
Arsenal have long been mooted as suitors and may feel that they still lack depth when it comes to physical presence in the middle of the park, while Spurs' need for reinforcements in that area have been widely reported.
Both may, however, have to look elsewhere, with the Saints understandably reluctant to part with any more of their prized assets.
