Report: Another Newcastle United player, Yoan Gouffran, set to return to homeland

The Frenchman is being linked with a move to Saint-Etienne.

Newcastle United might be on the verge of sending another of their French players back to Ligue 1, according to reports in France today.

It is believed that Yoan Gouffran is all set to head to Saint-Etienne in the coming weeks, if Les Verts can negotiate their way into the Europa League via the qualifying rounds.

The report from Foot01 claims that the Ligue 1 side have him on a two man shortlist for strikers this summer. The other name on the list is Reading target Robert Beric of Rapid Vienna.

They claim that Saint-Etienne will make a move for the player if they make it past Moldovan outfit FC Milsami Orhei in the Europa League qualifiers this week.

Gouffran arrived from Bordeaux in 2013 but has failed to live up to lofty expectations at St James Park.

He has played most of his football on the wing during his time with the club and not established himself as a Premier League regular.

His place in the Newcastle first-team looks to be even more at threat after the arrival of Florian Thauvin from Marseille so a move back home might be the perfect opportunity for him to get back on his feet.
