The Newcastle United player has given his first interview since leaving the club on loan.
The 25-year-old Frenchman headed back to his homeland as part of the deal that brought Florian Thauvin to St James’ Park, and after a disappointing year in England Cabella has been reflecting on what went wrong.
Cabella arrived at Newcastle last summer with a big reputation and a recent record to back it up, having scored 14 goals and provided eight assists in his final season at Montpellier.
However, last year was a different story, with Cabella scoring just once and adding just two assists to his name in 34 matches for Newcastle.
Now he has the chance to rediscover his best form in Ligue 1 and speaking to RMC he said of his time in England, “There have been ups and downs. It was an experience, a year in which I learned a lot.
“Now I am here and I am the happiest. I will give 100 per cent and do everything to play all matches.”
Cabella certainly has the talent to get his career back on track quickly, but only time will tell if he will ever pull on a Newcastle shirt again or if he will instead remain in France for the long term given that a permanent deal can be triggered in due course.
