Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour told talkSPORT there are two players in the current Tottenham Hotspur squad he feels need to step up.
Tottenham have suffered an inconsistent start to the new season as they strive for their best form, with Harry Kane unable to produce the sort of form he showed throughout last season.
It’s still early days and far too early to judge Kane or Tottenham as a team, but Parlour explained that he wants to see more support coming from the other players in the team.
“Eriksen has to step up again and Chadli, again, he chipped in with a few goals and he’s got to do that on a regular basis for Spurs, with better performances because he’s been a little inconsistent,” he told talkSPORT.
Worst case scenario
It is encouraging that Tottenham are trying to bring in some attacking support for Kane before the transfer window closes.
However, they need to prepare for the worst case scenario, which is Kane effectively having to battle away throughout the season up front on his own.
In that instance, Mauricio Pochettino needs to get other players to step up and play a bigger support role with Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli both players who can do that.
Eriksen excelled in the number ten slot last year, while Chadli has already experienced playing as a makeshift centre forward this season.
However, hopefully neither will be expected to play out of position for anything more than a few games and hopefully the club can get a deal over the line to bring in another forward.
