The Capital One Cup draw has thrown up an intriguing derby duel, but it could be a perfect opportunity for Spurs to get on the trophy trail.
The London rivals were paired together in Tuesday night’s draw, with their clash being one of the tastier third round ties to come out of the hat.
With Tottenham being drawn at home, they would appear to be in the stronger position, and their Argentine boss says they must use that to their advantage in what will be an eagerly-anticipated fixture for all of those connected with the club.
“We know that Arsenal are a very good team – they’re our rivals – but we’re playing at home so it’s a good opportunity for us and our fans,” he said to tottenhamhotspur.com.
“If you want to win the competition you need to win every game. I think it will be a very good match for us, an exciting game for ourselves and our supporters and we hope that we play well and win on the night.”
Perfect opportunity for success this season
With the Capital One Cup often deemed a second rate competition by the bigger teams, despite both Chelsea and Manchester City having won it in the last two years, it could present a perfect opportunity for Spurs this season.
Pochettino’s side are naturally targeting a top four finish in the Premier League, but with that battle expected to be as tough as ever, and the gap widening all the time, the cup competitions could offer the ideal platform for success this season.
And while fans are far from wanting Mauricio Pochettino out of the club, there are many who are questioning his methods, while chairman Daniel Levy has also come in for criticism at times. A cup win could be the solution to both of those problems.
