Liverpool media round-up: Lucas set to stay put, Milner expresses joy at start at Liverpool

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.

It looks as though Lucas Leiva will be staying at Liverpool beyond the transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror, after he started against Arsenal on Monday.

The Brazilian was set for a season-long loan at Turkish side Besiktas but it looks as though he will remain on Merseyside, though Besiktas are said to be unhappy with the U-turn made by Brendan Rodgers when he was initially prepared to let the midfielder leave Merseyside after leaving him out of the matchday squad for the opening two games of the Premier League season.

But after his inclusion in the starting line-up of the 0-0 draw with Arsenal, and Rodgers subsequently hailing him as the best defensive midfielder at the club, it appears Lucas will remain on Merseyside.

Summer signing James Milner has said he does not regret swapping Manchester City for Liverpool after making an impressive start to life on Merseyside.

Milner is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, among other newspapers, saying that he may have been still sitting on the bench at the Etihad Stadium whereas he has played every minute of the opening three games at Liverpool.

He said: “I am enjoying it very much. That is why I came here.

“You want to be among good, experienced players and a blend of English talent and foreign players. Everything is there.

“You look down the squad list and on the bench and it is a strong balance. You need a good squad to do anything and we will definitely have that.”

Last night saw the League Cup draw take place, with the Reds avoiding any of the competition's bigger sides with a home tie against League Two side Carlisle, which will take place week beginning September 21.
