Could the Leeds United centre-back be on his way this summer? The club's fans seem divided as to whether it would be a good or a bad move.
The 26-year-old Italian has played 33 matches for Leeds, including three so far this season, and while he was only on the bench for recent games against Reading and Sheffield Wednesday, he remains a vital player for the club.
If Bellusci left that would leave only Liam Cooper, Sol Bamba and Scott Wootton as experienced alternatives, and while the first two players have formed an impressive partnership of their own, Leeds manager Uwe Rosler will surely need all the players currently at his disposal in the months to come if he wants to successfully navigate the choppy waters of the Championship.
Following the news that two Italian clubs were in for the defender, a number of Leeds fans commented on this HITC story earlier in the week, and it was interesting to read the responses of the Elland Road faithful to the prospect of losing a player so close to deadline day.
Below is a selection of responses from the club’s fans to the rumour:
Lins said: ‘Can't jump, dives in, temperament questionable…’
John Brown said: ‘He brings that kind of tightness in defence reminiscent of when George Graham was in charge.’
Leeds Lad said: ‘Bellusci is a liability, who has had very few decent games whilst at Leeds. If we can get half decent money for him, and a better replacement, let him go! He constantly loses his man, does not understand the term "goal side", is poor in the air, lacks concentration, lacks discipline, commands nil respect from team mates ( or supporters ), and is always a contender to give away penalties / free kicks. This player shows no affinity to our club, and does not deserve to wear our shirt!’
Darrell said: ‘I'd expect many to say get rid but there is a very good defender wrapped inside Bellusci. It's easy to say sell him and get in better but we have had dozens of centre backs this last 10 years. Why not try to coach the mistakes out of him and build a settled squad. We have had far too many ins and outs at this club.’
John8oy said: ‘Get rid! Total liability. He has had no more than 3 decent games since he came. Never been a centre half, lacks height, can't jump. His defending is desperate at times, we need another Bamba…composed. Bellusci would make a much better defensive midfielder, but coaches don't see it. Cash in, can't believe he got a four-year deal.’
Muz said: ‘Bellusci is a good Championship CB so we should only let him go if we can sign someone better like Liam Moore to replace him. We're yet to see who is going to be the best partner for Bamba though and I hope either Wootton or Cooper can up their game and make that place theirs.’
